Barton jailed for six months

Newcastle United FC midfielder Joey Barton has been jailed for six months for assault and affray. The 25-year-old was convicted for two "cowardly and sickening attacks" in his home city of Liverpool. Barton was sold to Newcastle by Manchester City FC last summer after Barton fought with team-mate Ousmane Dabo. He was capped by England in February 2007.
