Newcastle loan
The Spanish club confirmed on their website that González, who has put pen to paper on a four-year deal at the Mestalla, will spend the 2008/09 campaign with Newcastle in England's Premier League. González, capped 15 times by Uruguay, made five appearances on loan at AS Monaco FC in France last season. Previously, the 26-year-old had scored 44 goals in 144 league games for Montevideo outfit Danubio.

Xisco swoop
In a second piece of business involving a Spanish Liga team, Newcastle have landed striker Xisco in a reported €7m transfer from RC Deportivo La Coruña. The 22-year-old, who found the net nine times in 25 top-flight matches last term having played on loan at UD Vecindario the season before, has accepted a five-year contract with Kevin Keegan's charges.
