Twelve-match ban for Barton

Published: Friday 5 September 2008, 16.20CET
Midfielder Joey Barton has received a 12-match ban from the Football Association, with six of those games suspended until the end of the 2009/10 season, after admitting a charge of violent conduct. The Newcastle United FC player will be banned for six matches with immediate effect, because of his assault on then Manchester City FC team-mate Ousmane Dabo in May 2007. The 26-year-old, capped once by England, never played for City again.
