Stanimir Stoilov has been reappointed as coach of Bulgaria, succeeding Plamen Markov who was sacked in December less than a year after taking charge.

The 41-year-old PFC Litex Lovech coach has held the post before, on an interim basis in June 2007, when he guided Bulgaria to back-to-back victories against Belarus in UEFA EURO 2008™ qualification Group G. Stoilov – who will stay on at Litex – made his name as a coach at PFC Levski Sofia between 2004 and 2008, guiding the club to successive league titles in 2005/06 and 2006/07 as well as winning the Bulgarian Cup in 2005 and 2007. He also steered Levski to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Cup in 2005/06 and made history the following season by leading the club to the group stage of the UEFA Champions League.
'Wise choice'
The appointment of Stoilov will be formally approved by the Executive Committee of the Bulgarian Football Union (BFU) this week. "Stoilov is a wise choice," said Borislav Mihailov, the newly reappointed BFU president. "He will also remain in charge of his club side, Litex." Stoilov's first game in charge will be a friendly against Switzerland in Geneva on 11 February. Bulgaria are third in 2010 FIFA World Cup qualification Group 8 with three points from as many matches.
