The Premier-Liga champions reportedly beat off competition from FC Dinamo Moskva, FC Spartak Moskva and PFC CSKA Moskva, as well as Spanish side RCD Espanyol, to land the midfield player. The 27-year-old has agreed a two-and-a-half year contract, with the possibility of a one-year extension.
Reasons for joining
Explaining his decision to join Lokomotiv, Khokhlov said: "First, I like the way Lokomotiv play, I like the style of the team. Second, there is a chance to play in the [UEFA] Champions League. Third, I was offered a good contract. And, lastly, I like the people who work at the club."
Ashvetia wanted
Lokomotiv chairman Valeri Filatov contacted Khokhlov, who has 45 international caps, after hearing he was keen to return home. Filatov said he was delighted to bring back "one of Russia's top players". Lokomotiv, who are currently seventh in the Premier-Liga, are also set to sign Georgian striker Mikhail Ashvetia from FC Spartak-Alania Vladikavkaz.
