Turkey defeated the Republic of Ireland 1-0 to finish second in Group 2 in qualifying for the 2011 UEFA European Under-21 Championship, but it was not enough to secure a play-off place as one of the four best runners-up.

Turkey captain Tevfik Köse scored the only goal with nine minutes remaining when he fired in a loose ball after the Irish defence had failed to clear Tolgay Arslan's low cross from the right.

The win took Turkey above Georgia into second, four points behind group winners Switzerland, but it was not enough for them to advance. Ireland finished bottom of the section with seven points from their ten games.
