Ajax deserve better, says Van Basten

Marco van Basten told a news conference that AFC Ajax "deserve better" as he explained his decision to quit as coach at the Amsterdam ArenA after one season in charge. "I have had a very nice year at Ajax ... the only thing missing were the results of the first team, and that is my responsibility. Ajax deserve better," said the 44-year-old former Netherlands boss. Ajax's 4-0 defeat at Sparta Rotterdam last Sunday left them unable to catch second-placed FC Twente who will join champions AZ Alkmaar in the UEFA Champions League next term.
