• Strong in the tackle and a driving force in central midfield, Dessena played once at the 2007 UEFA European U21 Championship.

• Made Serie A debut for Parma FC aged 17 in February 2005, featuring in their run to the UEFA Cup semi-finals that season.

• Joined Sampdoria after Parma's relegation in summer 2008 and played over 20 league games as well as helping the Blucerchiati reach the Coppa Italia final.
