Surgery forces Ümit out

Galatasaray SK striker Ümit Karan will miss his side's next UEFA Champions League date through injury.

Galatasaray SK striker Ümit Karan will be sidelined for at least three weeks after undergoing a groin operation.

Groin complaint
The 26-year-old has had a long-standing groin complaint for two years and suffered a recurrence during his side's 3-0 UEFA Champions League third qualifying round first-leg win against PFC CSKA Sofia last week. Galatasaray medical staff said that the decision to undergo surgery had been taken to prevent the injury worsening in the future.

September return
Ümit will definitely miss Turkish league matches against Bursaspor and Gençlerbirligi and the second leg of the Champions League tie against CSKA. However, he hopes to be back in action by the time the group stage of the competition commences on 16 September.
