Since arriving in Spain six years ago Manuel Pellegrini has earned a reputation as one of the shrewdest tacticians in the game, guiding Villarreal CF to the semi-finals of UEFA Champions League in 2005/06 and this season taking Real Madrid CF into the knockout stages as one of the favourites.
