Fenerbahçe win no triumph for Lille

Missed chances left Stéphane Dumont and Adil Rami underwhelmed after LOSC Lille Métropole beat Fenerbahçe SK 2-1, the latter telling UEFA.com: "It's a win so we won't get down about it."

Midfielder Stéphane Dumont is confident free-scoring LOSC Lille Métropole will tame Fenerbahçe SK's vociferous support when the Ligue 1 outfit travel to Turkey next week looking to protect a 2-1 first-leg advantage in their UEFA Europa League round of 32 tie.

Les Dogues rattled in 15 goals during the group stage and wasted no time opening their account against Christoph Daum's team in northern France, Florent Balmont scoring inside three minutes. Although Gökçek Vederson levelled moments later, Pierre-Alain Frau pounced in the 52nd minute to secure a 12th consecutive home win for Rudi Garcia's side.

The Yellow Canaries will feel Vederson's away goal offers them a good chance of progressing, yet Dumont is convinced Lille will score in Istanbul. "We know we can create chances – we showed that tonight," the 27-year-old told UEFA.com. "The atmosphere will be magnificent over there. It'll be a big match. We'll try to defend our lead, score at least one goal and qualify."

Both sides were left ruing missed opportunities. Daniel Güiza squandered two glorious ones for the visitors, although the hosts did most of the attacking and were frustrated at scoring only twice. "We definitely have some regrets," defender Adil Rami told UEFA.com. "It's a win so we won't get down about it but if we hadn't conceded that goal and if we'd scored another ourselves... The world is full of ifs! They managed to score at our place so there's no reason why we can't score over there."

Dumont echoed Rami's sentiments, saying: "We would have liked to have won by a bigger margin, but we managed to get the win and that's the important thing. It's always disappointing to concede soon after scoring, but overall we played well and managed to extend our run [of wins] at home."

Rami, meanwhile, promised a battling display on 25 February. "We won the first round, now we have to win the second. Round is the right word because it's a real fight against this team. They're physical and very good on the ball. But we're fighters and competitors and we'll give it our best shot."
