Emerson to fill Ferguson gap

Scottish champions Rangers FC have signed the Brazilian midfield player Emerson to replace Barry Ferguson.

Free transfer
The 31-year-old, who was a free agent after leaving Club Atlético de Madrid earlier this summer, had been linked with Wolverhampton Wanderers FC and Rangers' Glasgow rivals Celtic FC, but has now joined the Scottish champions.

Ferguson replacement
The former Middlesbrough FC, RC Deportivo La Coruña and Atlético player has signed a two-year, appearance-related contract. He will fill the gap left by captain Barry Ferguson, who is poised to join Blackburn Rovers FC.

'Marvellous experience'
Rangers manager Alex McLeish told the club's website: "I'm delighted to have completed the deal to bring Emerson to the club. Emerson is very experienced and has played with some great clubs. I don't expect him to be the same player as Barry Ferguson but he will bring us marvellous experience."

Muscat leaves
Meanwhile, Australian international defender has left Rangers to join English first division side Millwall FC a year after moving to Scotland from Wolverhampton Wanderers FC.
