UEFA honours
UEFA Cup:
winner 2005

• Began his career in low-key fashion with Bosna Visoko before moving on to Slovenian club Faktor Ljubljana and Austrian second-tier outfit Vorwärts Steyr, whom he helped to promotion.

• Scored in his final game for Steyr before leaving in early 1999 to join Anzhi Makhachkala; won the Russian second division with the club in his first season and ever-present, with 30 appearances, in his debut Premier-Liga campaign.

• A losing Russian Cup finalist – on penalties – with Anzhi in June 2001, he joined CSKA soon afterwards and would become a key player during coach Valeri Gazzaev's successful seven-year reign that climaxed with 2005 UEFA Cup final triumph, rarely missing a game during his tenure.

• Made belated introduction to international football, aged 31, in June 2007 and was a regular thereafter in UEFA EURO 2008 and 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifying.

• Started all 30 matches in each of CSKA's back-to-back Premier-Liga title wins in 2005 and 2006 – the only player to do so.
