Moscow side Olimp have booked their place in the 2012/13 UEFA Regions' Cup final tournament, with three wins and no goals conceded in the Group 5 mini-tournament in Gozo, Malta.
The Russian outfit were already assured of their place in the eight-team final tournament, to be hosted by one of the finalists next June, before they kicked off their concluding 4-0 win against Latvian team Rinuzi / Strong. They had begun with a 4-0 defeat of Moldova's Ialoveni and then beat the host region, Gozo, 6-0 in their second game.
Olimp striker Sergei Orlov, who scored five goals during the tournament, told UEFA.com: "I am very pleased with my performances and with qualification for my side as well. I am confident and expect us to triumph in the finals phase of this UEFA Regions' Cup. We have a very strong side and it showed."
Eddie Vella's Gozo had overcome Rinuzi / Strong in their opening fixture, and while their loss to Olimp ended their hopes of winning the section, a 2-2 draw with Ialoveni on the final day meant they finished as runners-up – to the delight of captain Aleksandar Simoncic: "I am very happy with our results. We worked really hard for this. To be honest I did not expect second place but we did it." Ialoveni also held Rinuzi / Strong 2-2 on the second matchday.
