Croatia has been confirmed as the venue for the 2009 UEFA Regions' Cup tournament, with Europe's top amateur sides on tenterhooks as they look ahead to the draw for the finals in Tuheljske Toplice on 23 April.
The eight-team tournament, which will run from 15 June until the final on the 22nd, will be the first UEFA finals competition to be held in Croatia, with Zagreb set to be the focal point. Preparations for the event will begin in earnest on 23 April at 16.00CET when the draw for the finals is held at the 18th-century Mihanović Castle in Tuheljske Toplice. Host team Centre Zagreb AMA will be seeded as team 1 in Group A, with the remaining seven teams to be drawn freely.
Regional sides from Belgium, the Republic of Ireland, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Russia, Romania and Slovakia will join Centre Zagreb in the finals along with the winner of Intermediary round Group 4, which involves teams from France, Portugal, Spain and San Marino and concludes on 8 April. Past winners of the tournament have hailed from Italy, the Czech Republic, Spain's Basque region and Poland.
