Keleti Régió stormed through the intermediary round with three Group 3 wins and coach Tamás Feczkó said: "We will be going to the finals with the same appetite for victories." An 18-man squad including policemen, civil servants and a computer engineer hit their stride in the Czech Republic, and the challenge now is to improve on Hungary's previous best in this competiton, with Szabolcs Gabona Csoport receiving bronze medals at the 2003 finals in Germany. Imre Domokos scored five goals in qualifying, but captain Róbert Kóka felt a team ethic was the secret of their success. "We work hard for each other," he said. "Discipline, concentration and unity were the most important things."
