• A renowned striker in the USSR during the 1980s, Kondratyev's best years came at Dinamo Minsk as they won the Soviet title in 1982 and finished third a year later. He scored four goals in 14 games for the Soviet Union in that period.
• Played various sports in his youth and participated in regional athletics competitions before focusing on football at 15. Quickly graduated from the academy to the first team at Soviet third-tier club Dvina Vitebsk.
• Moved to Dinamo Minsk and went on to make 284 top-flight appearances, scoring 92 goals and earning a reputation as being committed, good in the air and having an eye for goal.
• Started his coaching career in 1998 as an assistant at Slavia-Mozyr and Dinamo Minsk. His best achievement at club level came in 2008 when he guided Smorgon to an eighth-placed finish in Belarus.
• Took charge of the U21s and set target of reaching the UEFA European Championship; dramatically delivered as Belarus recovered from a 2-0 first-leg play-off defeat in Italy to win the return 3-0.
