• Made his debut at Crvena Zvezda aged 17, going on to play more than 250 matches for the club. A gifted midfielder with a keen eye for goal, Petrović won four Yugoslavian league titles and reached the 1978/79 UEFA Cup final – losing to VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach – adding a Yugoslav Cup in 1982, his final season.
• Spent a year at Arsenal before spells in France and Belgium, but is most closely associated with Crvena Zvezda. Was selected as one of the club's five greatest players and has an area of the stadium named after him.
• Won 34 caps for Yugoslavia, whom he represented in the 1974 and 1982 FIFA World Cups. Petrović hung up his boots in 1988. Was assistant coach as his beloved Crvena Zvezda lifted the 1991 European Champion Clubs' Cup.
• The team's head coach in 1996/97, winning the domestic cup. Went on to lead Serbia and Montenegro to the 2004 UEFA European Under-21 Championship final.
• Nicknamed Pižon, or pigeon, Petrović opted to try his luck in China, first with Dalien Shide and then the national side. Returned to Crvena Zvezda in June 2009 but sacked the following March. Took over Romanian club Timişoara in June 2010 before succeeding Radomir Antić as Serbia coach three months later.
