• Returned to his homeland in 1988, working alongside József Both and György Mezey at Honvéd before striking out on his own in 1993. Helped BVSC Budapest finish runners-up in both the league and Hungarian Cup in 1996, then opted for a year in Saudi Arabia with Al-Ittihad.

• Returned to MTK two years later, adding another league title in 2003 prior to spells with Vasas, Al Salmiya Club in Kuwait and Győr.

• Five times Hungary's coach of the year, Egervári also won the country's coaching prize across all sports in 2009 when he took up a post within the national association. Promptly led Hungary to third place at the FIFA U-20 World Cup, then succeeded Erwin Koeman as coach of the senior side on 1 August 2010.
