Héctor Cúper

Aris Thessaloniki FC

Date of birth: 16 November 1955
Nationality: Argentinian
Playing career: Club Ferro Carril Oeste (twice), Independiente Rivadavia, CA Huracán
Coaching career: CA Huracán, CA Lanús, RCD Mallorca (twice), Valencia CF, FC Internazionale Milano, Real Betis Balompié, Parma FC, Georgia, Aris Thessaloniki FC

• A central defender capped five times for Argentina, spent the bulk of his career with Ferro, winning national titles in 1982 and 1984; ended his playing career – and started out as a coach – with Huracán, before a spell with Lanús.

• Moved to Mallorca in 1997, leading the club to the Copa del Rey final in his first season; the following season they finished third in the league and lost out to S.S. Lazio in the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup final.

• Joined Valencia in 1999, but cup misfortune pursued him; his side lost successive UEFA Champions League finals to Real Madrid CF (2000) and FC Bayern München (2001), the latter on penalties.

• Significant success eluded him at Inter too as his side lost the title to Juventus on the final day of 2001/02 with a 4-2 loss against Lazio; departing in 2003, he experienced a forgettable return to Mallorca and short spells at Betis and Parma as well as with the Georgia national team.

• Joined Aris in November 2009, and though his side lost to Panathinaikos FC in the Greek Cup final in his first season, Cúper earned an extended contract until June 2011.
