• Began his professional career aged 19 with lower-league side Jindřichův Hradec; after spells at Spartak and Viktoria Beránek fulfilled a childhood dream by signing for Slavia, making more than 100 league appearances for the club he calls "the team of my life".
• After five seasons at Slavia, Beránek went back to the lower divisions to join Gmünd, where he became player-coach at the age of 34.
• Hung up his boots in 1993 and returned to Slavia as assistant coach. His first head coach position followed at Kladno in 1996 before five years in charge at Chmel Blšany, whom he took to the top flight as 1998 second division champions and then guided to sixth place the following season.
• Had started working as assistant with Czech Republic U21s in 1997, taking full charge three years later and guiding a team including Petr Čech, Tomáš Hübschman and Milan Baroš to UEFA European Championship glory in 2002. Subsequently formed a partnership with Karol Brückner at senior level, the pair taking the Czechs to the UEFA EURO 2004 semi-finals.
• Stepped down as Brückner's assistant in 2006, going on to spend a year with Hungary's Debrecen and Al Wasl in the United Arab Emirates. Joined Brno in 2008, returning to Kladno two years later before agreeing a one-year contract with the option for a further two to take charge of Kazakhstan.
