• A regular at 20, Arshavin gained domestic acclaim before sampling international recognition for the first time when helping Zenit to the UEFA Cup quarter-finals in 2006 with five goals.
• Won his first cap for Russia in May 2002 and scored five goals during the 2006 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign, successfully transferring his effective club strike partnership with Aleksandr Kerzhakov to the international stage.
• Added three more in UEFA EURO 2008 qualifying and, although suspended for the first two games of finals, returned to spearhead brilliant wins against Sweden and the Netherlands, scoring and winning man-of-the-match awards in both.
• Inspired Zenit to their first Premier-Liga title in 2007, starting all 30 matches and scoring ten goals; shone similarly in the 2007/08 UEFA Cup, taking the man-of-the-match prize in the final against Rangers FC, and also won the UEFA Super Cup against Manchester United FC in Monaco.
• Joined Arsenal in early 2009 and quickly settled in the Premier League, memorably scoring all his side's goals in a 4-4 draw with Liverpool FC at Anfield a few months later.
• Left north London two league appearances shy of 100 for Arsenal when he returned on loan to Zenit, his home-town club, in February 2012.
