Having scored ten goals in helping Croatia qualify for UEFA EURO 2008 but missed the finals with a horrific leg injury, Eduardo will be eager to make his mark in Poland/Ukraine. A penalty-box predator with a lethal left foot, the Brazilian-born striker has successfully re-launched his career at FC Shakhtar Donetsk.
• A native of Rio de Janeiro, he joined Dinamo's youth academy at 15 and made his debut in 2001 before spending the 2002/03 season on loan at second-tier Inter Zaprešić, where he scored ten goals in 15 games.
• Returned to Dinamo and became a regular in attack, increasing his goal tally each season before registering a record-breaking 34 in 32 games as Dinamo retained the Croatian title in 2006/07; his tally in all competitions that season − for club and country − was 53.
• Acquired Croatian citizenship in 2002 and featured prominently for the Under-21s, scoring at a rate of more than a goal a game, before establishing himself as a regular for the seniors; omitted by Zlatko Kranjčar from the 2006 FIFA World Cup squad but scored ten goals − the second best haul in the competition − to help Slaven Bilić's team qualify for UEFA EURO 2008.
• Signed by Arsenal as a replacement for Thierry Henry in July 2007, taking the No9 shirt; struck 12 goals despite restricted playing time before suffering a broken fibula and a dislocated left ankle in a league game at Birmingham City FC.
• The injury caused him to miss UEFA EURO 2008 and 18 months of Premier League action before a gradual re-introduction in 2009/10; joined Shakhtar in July 2010 for a reported €7.5m, scoring on his league debut and in both UEFA Champions League group games against Arsenal.
• On target but then sent off in the 2011 Ukrainian Cup final against FC Dynamo Kyiv as Shakhtar completed the double, the striker started just seven league games as the Pitmen repeated the feat in 2011/12.
