Bacary Sagna

A prominent member of the France squad which qualified for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, starting 11 of their 12 matches plus all three at the finals in South Africa, Bacary Sagna was ruled out of UEFA EURO 2012 when he broke the fibula in his right leg a month before the tournament.

• Born in France's Burgundy region to Senegalese parents, Sagna was recruited by AJ Auxerre in his mid-teens and graduated through the youth academy, making his Ligue 1 debut on 11 September 2004 in a 1-0 defeat at SC Bastia.

• A Coupe de France winner at the end of his first full season, coming on as a substitute in the final against CS Sedan Ardennes at the Stade de France (2-1), Sagna also helped Auxerre reach the UEFA Cup quarter-finals, making ten starts.

• After taking his three-season appearance total to 87, with an ever-present 38 starts in the 2006/07 Ligue 1 campaign, the full-back moved to Arsenal FC and made his Premier League debut on 12 August 2007 against Fulham FC.

• Voted into the team of the tournament at the 2006 UEFA European Under-21 Championship in Portugal, his full international debut came the following year, ten days after his Arsenal bow, versus Slovakia in Trnava.

• Soon established himself as Arsenal's regular right-back but missed the end of the 2007/08 season with an injury sustained in a league match at Chelsea FC (in which he scored his maiden Gunners goal) and also his first major international tournament, UEFA EURO 2008.

• Broke the fibula in his right leg in a league match against Norwich City FC on 5 May 2012, having sustained a similar injury earlier in the campaign which resulted in a four-month lay-off.
