Carlos Tévez

Clubs: CA Boca Juniors, SC Corinthians Paulista, West Ham United FC, Manchester United FC, Manchester City FC, Juventus

• Born and raised in Buenos Aires, Tévez joined Boca Juniors as a schoolboy and rose to prominence with the club, winning four major trophies including, in 2003, the Copa Libertadores and the European/South American Cup, in which Boca defeated AC Milan in Tokyo.

• Voted South American Footballer of the Year three times in succession (2003-05), he enjoyed success in Brazil with Corinthians, inspiring the team to the Brazilian title in 2005.

• First capped by Argentina in March 2004, he won Olympic gold that year – scoring a tournament-best eight goals in Athens − and played in major tournaments for the senior team in four consecutive summers from 2004-07, including the 2006 FIFA World Cup.

• Left Corinthians after that competition in a complex transfer to English club West Ham in tandem with compatriot Javier Mascherano.

• Saved West Ham from relegation before joining Manchester United, where he won several trophies including the UEFA Champions League and two Premier League titles.

• Left United in a high-profile, cross-city move to Manchester City in summer 2009 and enjoyed the most prolific season of his career, scoring 29 goals in all competitions, including 23 in the Premier League; rewarded with the captaincy for the 2010/11 campaign by coach Roberto Mancini.

• Featured for Argentina at 2010 FIFA World Cup, taking his international tally into double figures by scoring twice in a last-16 victory over Mexico (3-1).

• Out of favour at City for the most of 2011/12 season but returned to score a number of crucial goals at the end of the term to help the side lift the Premier League title.

• Six league goals followed in 28 Premier League appearances the following campaign for the Citizens, before a summer transfer to Serie A champions Juventus was agreed
