Yohan Cabaye

Yohan Cabaye

A pivotal member of the LOSC Lille Métropole side that won the French domestic double in 2010/11, Yohan Cabaye has gone on to star in the English Premier League with Newcastle United FC and strengthen his case for inclusion in France's midfield at UEFA EURO 2012.

• Joined Lille's youth academy as a schoolboy and signed his first professional contract, as an 18-year-old, in 2004.

• Made a handful of Ligue 1 and UEFA Cup appearances for Lille in 2004/05 before helping France to victory at the UEFA European Under-19 Championship in Northern Ireland.

• Made his UEFA Champions League debut against SL Benfica on matchday one of 2005/06 edition and made eight appearances in the competition the following season.

• Became an increasingly prominent figure for Lille following Rudi Garcia's arrival as coach in 2008, scoring a career-best tally of 13 top-flight goals in 2009/10 (the same number as team-mates Gervinho and Pierre-Alain Frau) and driving the club to the Ligue 1/Coupe de France double in 2010/11.

• First capped by France in Laurent Blanc's opening game, against Norway in Oslo, he made his maiden start the following summer versus Ukraine and, having made an excellent start in England with Newcastle, took the field for each of Les Bleus' final three UEFA EURO 2012 qualifiers.
