Daniel Kolář

Daniel Kolář

One of several players from FC Viktoria Plzeň to have broken into the Czech Republic side over the past two seasons, Daniel Kolář is an attacking midfielder with an eye for goal who started his country's last two UEFA EURO 2012 group qualifiers and was a substitute in both play-off ties.

• Developed through the youth academy at AC Sparta Praha and made his Czech 1. Liga debut while on loan at 1. FC Slovácko in 2004/05.

• Spent the first half of following season on loan at FK Chmel Blsaný before returning mid-campaign to Sparta and scoring his first goal for the club in a last-day 3-1 home defeat by Plzeň; also started the Czech Cup final, which Sparta won on penalties after a goalless draw against FC Baník Ostrava.

• Became a regular for Sparta under new coach Michal Bílek in 2006/07, scoring on his European debut in a UEFA Cup first round tie against Heart of Midlothian FC at rugby union ground Murrayfield (2-0) and helping the club to a domestic double.

• Less prominent in 2007/08 as Sparta finished second in the league but completed a hat-trick of Czech Cup wins before leaving for Plzeň, where he was quick to make a positive impression and won his first international cap in a June 2009 friendly against Malta.

• Won a fourth Czech Cup in 2010 as Plzeň defeated FK Jablonec 2-1 in the final and followed that up with a brilliant 2010/11 campaign in which he scored 13 league goals – the highest at the club – as Pavel Vrba's side won the title.

• Helped Plzeň into 2011/12 UEFA Champions League group stage with four qualifying goals before starting all six group games; scored his first international goal on his fourth appearance, a 4-0 friendly win against Ukraine on 6 September 2011.
