• Mariga left Kenya for Sweden in 2005, moving to Helsingsborg after a season at third-division outfit Enköpings.
• Two years in the Swedish top flight convinced Parma to sign the defensive midfielder on loan in August 2007, an arrangement which was turned into a four-year contract at the end of his first campaign.
• Struck three goals in 35 appearances as Parma won promotion from Serie B in 2008/09 as runners-up; moved to Inter on 1 February 2010, initially in a co-ownership deal, and made his debut in the first leg of the Coppa Italia semi-final against ACF Fiorentina two days later.
• An unused substitute for the UEFA Champions League final against FC Bayern München as Inter completed an historic treble, the Kenyan international was used fleetingly in the first half of a 2010/11 campaign which ended with him making a late appearance in the FIFA Club World Cup final.
• Scored his first goal for Inter in a Coppa Italia victory against Genoa CFC (3-2) on 12 January 2011.
