Pablo Hernández

Clubs: Valencia CF (twice), Cádiz CF (loan), Getafe CF

• A Valencia youth-team graduate, Hernández made his senior debut on the last day of the 2005/06 season against CA Osasuna (1-2) before leaving the club for a season on loan at second-tier Cádiz.

• Scored four goals in 22 appearances for the Andalusian side but not enough to earn him a place back at Valencia, who sold him to Getafe; prospered at the Madrid club, scoring three goals in the Liga and another four in the UEFA Cup, including a winner at SL Benfica, as Getafe reached the quarter-finals.

• Rejoined Valencia in 2008 and after an encouraging Liga campaign he went to the FIFA Confederations Cup in South Africa with Spain as a replacement for the injured Andrés Iniesta, gaining his first cap in a group game against the hosts (2-0).

• Scored his first goal for Spain on his third outing – a friendly against Austria in November 2009 (5-1) – but was not selected for the 2010 FIFA World Cup; restored to the squad for the start of UEFA EURO 2012 qualifying.

• Enjoyed an impressive 2009/10 campaign for Valencia, notably with two extra-time goals against Club Brugge KV in the UEFA Europa League round of 32; struck twice more in Europe in the 2010/11 UEFA Champions League group stage, the second of them giving Valencia the lead away to Manchester United FC in 1-1 draw.
