• Born in Krasnoyarsk, Chepchugov represented local club Metallurg in Russia's lower leagues for four seasons.
• Had a brief spell in Latvia with Rīga in 2008, starting five Vīrgsliga matches for the club, before returning to Russia with Sibir.
• Enjoyed an outstanding 2009 season with the Siberian team, helping them win promotion to the Premier-Liga as runners-up and earning personal acclaim as the second division's goalkeeper of the year.
• Did not play in the top flight for Sibir as he left to join CSKA, in the role of Igor Akinfeev's understudy, at the start of the 2010 campaign.
• Took the No1 jersey but made just two league starts for the Army Men in 2010, keeping clean sheets in both; also appeared twice in Europe, the second time as a substitute for the injured Akinfeev in a UEFA Europa League round of 32 match against PAOK FC (1-1).
