Luuk de Jong

Luuk de Jong

The younger brother of AFC Ajax's Siem de Jong, Luuk de Jong has overtaken his sibling in the Oranje pecking order, making two substitute appearances in UEFA EURO 2012 qualifying and scoring in the 2-0 win in Finland. He won the Eredivisie and the Dutch Cup with FC Twente.

• Born in Switzerland to professional volleyball-playing parents, he moved to the Netherlands as a child and began his professional career with De Graafschap.

• Suffered relegation with the Doetinchem club at the end of his first Eredivisie campaign (2008/09), in which he struck his first goal, against Twente in a 2-2 draw.

• Moved to Enschede in summer 2009, aged 18, but was not an integral member of the Twente side that won the 2009/10 Eredivisie title under Steve McClaren, making just three starts, nine appearances as a substitute and scoring two goals.

• Far more involved under new boss Michel Preud'homme in 2010/11, scoring 12 goals in the Eredivisie, another four in Europe and helping Twente come from behind in an epic Dutch Cup final to beat Ajax 3-2; a week later, however, brother Siem turned the tables on him by scoring twice as Ajax defeated Twente 3-1 to win the championship.

• Made his international debut on 9 February 2011 in an Eindhoven friendly against Austria − the first of six substitute appearances he made for the Oranje during the calendar year.

• He recorded career-best figures of 25 goals in 31 games as Twente finished sixth in the Eredivisie in 2011/12 before joining VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach on a five-year deal in July.
