Jaroslav Drobný

The world-class presence of Petr Čech in the Czech Republic goal has thwarted the international progress of Jaroslav Drobný, who has a solid track record at club level, notably in Germany, where he is first choice for Hamburger SV after a three-year spell at Hertha BSC Berlin.

• Started out with SK České Budějovice, making 28 appearances in his debut top-flight campaign, 1999/2000, but suffering relegation with the club at the end of his second.

• A move to Greek side Panionios GSS proved highly productive as he went on to star for the Athens team for four seasons, making 101 Super League starts and another eight in the UEFA Cup, including two against FC Barcelona.

• Earmarked by Fulham FC to replace Manchester United FC-bound Edwin van der Sar, he joined the Londoners in 2005 but failed to make a first-team appearance and was loaned to ADO Den Haag; he also drew a blank at another English club, Ipswich Town FC, before reviving his career with a January 2007 transfer to VfL Bochum 1848, where he started all 17 Bundesliga matches.

• Left Bochum for Hertha after just half a season and established himself as a dependable figure for the Berlin club, missing just one Bundesliga game in his first two campaigns, the second of which brought a fourth-place finish and his international debut – in a February 2009 friendly against Morocco.

• Relegated with Hertha in 2010, he joined Hamburg but had to play second fiddle to veteran Frank Rost before becoming the club's goalkeeper of choice in 2011/12.
