UEFA European Under-18 Championship: winner 1996
• A graduate of the French Football Federation academy at Clairefontaine, Gallas started his professional career with Caen, helping them win promotion to the top flight in his first season; joined Marseille after two years at the Normandy club.
• Reached the UEFA Cup final with Marseille in his first European club campaign, 1998/99, although he was not in the squad for the Moscow decider against Parma FC; left Marseille for Chelsea in 2001 and won the Premier League title two seasons in succession (2004/05 and 2005/06) before joining Arsenal in a swap deal with Ashley Cole.
• A European champion with France at Under-18 level in 1996, he made his debut for the seniors in October 2002 on the same day that Chelsea colleague Marcel Desailly won his 100th cap.
• After winning the 2003 FIFA Confederations Cup he played all seven games at UEFA EURO 2004 and UEFA EURO 2008; did not miss a minute of action at the 2006 FIFA World Cup, qualifying and final tournament combined, as Les Bleus finished runners-up to Italy.
• Appointed Arsenal captain in August 2007, he was replaced in the role by Cesc Fàbregas in November 2008; scored in his first three games at the start of the 2009/10 – against Everton FC and Portsmouth FC in the Premier League and Celtic FC in a UEFA Champions League play-off.
• A calf injury hampered his final season at the club, his last appearance for the Gunners coming when he was carried off in the UEFA Champions League quarter-final first leg against FC Barcelona.
• After rejecting Arsenal's offer of a new contract, he crossed the north London divide to play for Tottenham, becoming the first player to appear for Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham; was made captain for the league trip to Arsenal on 20 November 2010 (3-2).
