Mathieu Chalmé

An abrasive, rigorous right-back, Mathieu Chalmé has accumulated a wealth of European experience with LOSC Lille Métropole and FC Girondins de Bordeaux and, despite a lack of international recognition, he is widely regarded as one of the most consistent full-backs in France.

• Born in south-west France, he joined Bordeaux aged 17 but was unable to break into first team and left to join amateur regional club FC Libourne-Saint-Seurin.

• Joined Lille as a professional in 2002, making his Ligue 1 debut against Bordeaux.

• Remained with Lille for next five seasons, appearing regularly for club in Europe; an ever present in 2006/07 as Les Dogues reached last 16 of the UEFA Champions League, losing narrowly to Manchester United FC.

• Secured dream move back to Bordeaux in 2007, replacing Julien Faubert as the team's regular right-back.

• Started 32 Ligue 1 matches in 2008/09 as Bordeaux won French title but missed League Cup final win against Vannes OC; reached 200 Ligue 1 appearances in September 2009.

Did you know?
In conjunction with former Les Marine et Blanc favourite Johan Micoud, Chalmé bought one of Bordeaux's most famous vineyards − Pomerol, La Connivence.
