UEFA Champions League: runner-up 2004
• Born of Senegalese descent in south-west France, Cissé left local club Pau for PSG at 19, making his Ligue 1 debut in October 1997 in a 0-0 draw against FC Nantes; won the League Cup in his debut season.
• Spent 1998/99 on loan to Rennes and returned to play regularly for PSG over the next three seasons before he was considered surplus to requirements by coach Luis Fernández and farmed out on loan to West Ham, with whom he suffered relegation from the Premier League.
• Enjoyed much better fortunes on loan at Monaco in 2003/04, helping them reach the UEFA Champions League final, not least with goals against PSV Eindhoven (2-1) and RC Deportivo La Coruña (8-3) and a man-marking masterclass on Zinédine Zidane in the quarter-final against Real Madrid CF.
• Returned to PSG in 2004 and played under four coaches over the next three seasons, winning the French Cup in 2006 with 2-1 victory in the final against Marseille; joined Beşiktaş in 2007 and proved highly influential as the Black Eagles claimed the Turkish double in 2008/09.
• Rejoined ex-Monaco boss Didier Deschamps at Marseille in June 2009 and added to his copious trophy haul with another domestic double – the French League Cup followed by the Ligue 1 title.
