Johan Elmander

Clubs: Holmalunds IF, Örgryte IS, Feyenoord, Djurgårdens IF (loan), NAC Breda (loan), Brøndby IF (twice), Toulouse FC, Bolton Wanderers FC, Galatasaray AŞ, Norwich City FC (loan)

• Highly rated in his teens, he had two seasons in the Swedish Allsvenskan with Örgryte IS before moving abroad to join Feyenoord in 2000; underachieved in the Eredivisie but scored on each of his two UEFA Champions League appearances and earned a winners' medal in the UEFA Cup (he was a substitute in the final versus Borussia Dortmund).

• Returned home on loan to Djurgårdens IF and made a big impact in a short time as the club won the domestic double; on course for another Allsvenskan title in 2003 after scoring seven goals in 11 games but departed mid-season for NAC Breda.

• Joined Brøndby IF in 2004 and won the Danish double at the first attempt; he maintained that momentum following a 2006 switch to Toulouse FC, scoring a hat-trick on the final day of the season to beat local rivals FC Girondins de Bordeaux 3-1 and lift his side into third place, which earned a UEFA Champions League qualifying slot.

• Scored four goals for Sweden at the 2004 UEFA European Under-21 Championship finals and made two substitute appearances for the senior team at the 2006 FIFA World Cup; became more involved during UEFA EURO 2008 qualification, scoring four goals, including one in a 2-0 home win against eventual winners Spain, and went on to make three appearances at the finals.

• Joined Premier League Bolton for €12.6m in 2008 and had two fair-to-middling campaigns before showing his true colours in 2010/11, starting 37 of the 38 matches and scoring ten goals.

• His form brought regular participation for Sweden in UEFA EURO 2012 qualifying – albeit with just two goals to his credit, both in a 4-1 win in Moldova – and a free transfer to Galatasaray, who he helped to the Süper Lig title with a dozen efforts in 36 appearances.

• Spent a season on loan at Norwich in 2013/14 but could not prevent relegation from the Premier League before signing a two-year deal with Brøndby
