Andreas Isaksson

Ever-present for Sweden at UEFA EURO 2004 and UEFA EURO 2008, Andreas Isaksson remains his country's uncontested first-choice goalkeeper. He has also been the custodian of choice at PSV Eindhoven for the past four seasons, although he lost his place to Poland's Przemysław Tytoń in spring 2012 before sustaining a shoulder injury which ruled him out for the rest of the season.

• Hails from Trelleborg on Sweden's southern tip and started with his local side before Juventus scouted him and took him to Turin.

• Never played for the first team in two years in Italy, however, and returned home to play for Stockholm club Djurgårdens IF, with whom he won the domestic double in 2002 and made a successful Allsvenskan title defence in 2003, starting all 26 matches.

• An unused member of Sweden's 2002 FIFA World Cup squad, he took over from Magnus Hedman for the UEFA EURO 2004 qualifiers and played in all four games at the finals in Portugal, where he was one of the best keepers on view; has remained No1 ever since, making further appearances at the 2006 World Cup and UEFA EURO 2008 and surpassing 90 caps in February 2012.

• Joined Stade Rennais FC in summer 2004 and was a Ligue 1 ever-present in his first season; moved to Manchester City FC after the 2006 World Cup but injuries to thumb and knee ruined his first term in England and he was overlooked in his second, prompting a 2008 move to PSV.

• Won the 2008 Dutch Super Cup shortly after his arrival and started all six 2008/09 UEFA Champions League group games, but finished no higher than third in the Eredivisie in his first four campaigns and was nursing a shoulder injury when PSV won the Dutch Cup in April 2012.
