Clubs: Real Betis Balompié, RC Celta de Vigo, FC Barcelona

• A native of Cadiz, southern Spain, José Manuel Pinto Colorado progressed through the ranks at Betis, featuring regularly for the B team for three seasons prior to his one and only first-team appearance, in 1997/98.

• Unable to dislodge No1 goalkeeper Toni Prats, he moved to the port city of Vigo in summer 1998 to try his luck with Celta, where, after initially finding action hard to come by, he would make 181 league outings in a decade of service before joining Barcelona.

• His first taste of UEFA Champions League football came in 2003/04 – a season in which Celta were relegated − following a fourth-place finish the previous campaign; back in the top flight, he won the prestigious Zamora trophy as the Liga's best goalkeeper in 2005/06 having conceded 28 goals in 37 league matches.

• A second relegation followed in 2006/07 and with Pinto plying his trade in the second tier, Barcelona signed him, initially on loan, in January 2008 as cover for the injured Albert Jorquera.

• Made the move permanent at the end of the season but with Víctor Valdés the established No1, he rarely featured in the league − did, however, play every minute of Barcelona's 2008/09 triumphant Copa del Rey campaign and kept clean sheets in his two appearances in the 2010/11 UEFA Champions League.
