Igor Semshov

An experienced, highly respected central midfielder who has appeared for Russia at three major tournaments, Igor Semshov was an ever-present at UEFA EURO 2008. He made his Russian Premier League debut in 1996 and is now back at FC Dinamo Moskva after a one-year stint at FC Zenit St Petersburg.

• Born in Moscow, he started out with PFC CSKA Moskva before moving in 1998 to FC Torpedo Moskva, where he would remain for the next eight years.

• Seldom injured or suspended, he missed just three league games in his final four seasons with Torpedo and only four in his first two terms with Dinamo, where he arrived at the beginning of the 2006 championship having been the league's third highest scorer, with 12 goals, in his final campaign with Torpedo.

• Won his first international cap just before the 2002 FIFA World Cup, in a Moscow friendly against Belarus, and featured twice at the finals − versus Tunisia and Japan; appeared in one game at UEFA EURO 2004, as a substitute in the final group encounter with Greece.

• Nine UEFA EURO 2008 qualifying appearances preceded five starts at the finals and he passed a half-century of international caps on the road to UEFA EURO 2012.

• Left Dinamo for Zenit in 2009 but returned for the 2010 campaign − in which his previous employers won the double, leaving him still without a trophy after a decade and a half of Russian top-flight participation.
