UEFA honours
UEFA European Championship: runner-up 2012
UEFA Champions League: winner 2006, 2010
• Born in Sao Bernardo do Campo, Sao Paolo, Thiago Motta joined Barcelona from Clube Atlético Juventus, aged 17, and made his senior debut in October 2001 following several dynamic midfield displays for Barcelona B.
• Won back-to-back Liga titles − in 2004/05 and 2005/06 − and was a member of the squad that lifted the UEFA Champions League in 2006, but struggled to hold down a regular first-team place and signed for Club Atlético de Madrid in 2007.
• Knee problems restricted him to just six league outings for the club and he for Italian side Genoa CFC in 2008, where he enjoyed the most productive season of his career with six goals in 27 Serie A games; recruited by Inter in a double-deal with team-mate Diego Milito in May 2009.
• Scored his first Nerazzurri goal in a 4-0 derby win against AC Milan and helped Inter to the Italian double, but missed the 2010 UEFA Champions League showpiece through suspension; returned from another injury lay-off in time to help Inter win the FIFA Club World Cup in December 2010.
• The following February the Brazilian-born player − who appeared twice for his native country in the 2003 CONCACAF Gold Cup − made his Azzurri debut in a 1-1 friendly draw with Germany; he scored his first goal for his adopted country on his second outing − a 1-0 UEFA EURO 2012 qualifying victory in Slovenia on 25 March 2011.
• Became one of Carlo Ancelotti's first signings as Paris Saint-Germain FC coach in January 2012 and finished second in Ligue 1 with PSG; that summer made five appearances for his country as Italy reached the final of UEFA EURO 2012.
