An imaginative and industrious, if inconsistent, right-winger, Marco Marchionni joined ACF Fiorentina in 2009 after a three-year spell with Juventus that began in Serie B. An Italian international, his handful of caps have been spread over a number of years.

• Made his professional bow with Empoli FC, appearing in Serie A for the first time in a 1-1 draw with AS Roma on 31 January 1999.

• Relegated with Empoli and spent next two seasons in Serie B before joining Parma FC, with whom he won Coppa Italia in his first season.

• Had loan spell at Piacenza Calcio before establishing himself with Parma from 2003 to 2006, competing in UEFA Cup and winning first senior cap for Italy.

• Joined Juventus after their demotion to Serie B and helped Bianconeri win immediate promotion; made UEFA Champions League debut against Real Madrid CF in 2008/09 group stage (2-1) and featured prominently as La Vecchia Signora finished runners-up in Serie A.

• Left Turin for Fiorentina in July 2009 as part of deal taking Brazilian midfielder Felipe Melo in opposite direction; scored first UEFA Champions League goal in 5-2 home win over Debreceni VSC.
