• Born in Cordoba, Burdisso began his professional career with Boca Juniors, making his senior debut for the club on 10 October 1999.

• Enjoyed a hugely successful spell with the Buenos Aires team, winning two Apertura titles, triumphing in three Copa Libertadores finals and lifting the European/South American Cup twice – with victories against Real Madrid CF in 2000 and AC Milan in 2003.

• A winner of the 2001 FIFA U-20 World Cup on home soil, he also claimed Olympic gold in 2004 and represented Argentina's senior squad at the 2006 and 2010 FIFA World Cups as well as the 2007 Copa América.

• Joined Inter in 2004 and spent the next five years with the Nerazzurri, winning the Coppa Italia in each of his first two seasons and four successive Serie A titles.

• Spent the 2009/10 season on loan to Roma before making the move permanent with the signing of a four-year contract; joined in the 2010/11 squad by his younger brother Guillermo, he was the only Roma player to start all six games in the UEFA Champions League group stage.
