UEFA honours
UEFA Cup: winner 2003

• Born in Guimaraes, César Peixoto ascended three divisions when he joined Belenenses from Caçadores Taipas in 2001.

• An impressive season as a left-sided midfielder for the Lisbon club included seven league goals, one of them in a 3-0 win against FC Porto, who recruited him for the following season.

• Unused in the 2003 UEFA Cup final, he struggled to impress Porto boss José Mourinho and suffered serious knee ligament damage in a UEFA Champions League game against Olympique de Marseille that cut short his 2003/04 campaign (in which Porto were crowned champions of Europe).

• Loans to Guimarães and Espanyol punctuated the next three seasons before he left Porto in permanent move to Braga, where he became a regular at left-back, making 44 league appearances over two campaigns and scoring four goals; also won his first cap for Portugal in a November 2008 friendly against Brazil (2-6).

• Joined Benfica in 2009 and made 15 appearances in the Eagles' Liga title-winning campaign; appeared in five of six UEFA Champions League games in 2010/11.
