An experienced attacking midfielder, Jan Rezek staked a claim for regular involvement with the Czech Republic during the UEFA EURO 2012 qualifying campaign thanks to his impressive club form for FC Viktoria Plzeň. He has since joined Cypriot outfit Anorthosis Famagusta FC.

• Started his career with FK Teplice and scored his first 1. Liga goal in September 2002, against 1. FC Brno; won the Czech Cup at end of his first season, coming on as a substitute in the final – a 1-0 victory over FK Jablonec.

• Left Teplice for AC Sparta Praha midway through 2003/04 campaign – after registering on European debut, a UEFA Cup tie against 1. FC Kaiserslautern – and won the Czech Cup again, scoring Sparta's opening goal in the final as they won 2-1 against FC Baník Ostrava.

• Made his UEFA Champions League debut for Sparta in 2004 then had a spell in the Russian second tier with FC Kuban Krasnodar before returning home to play for Plzeň and then Sparta again, helping the latter to the 2006/07 domestic double, winning another cup final against Jablonec.

• Left Sparta for Plzeň in 2008 after a loan spell at Bohemians 1905 and in his second season there won the Czech Cup again – once more with Jablonec as his team's victims in the final.

• Made his international debut in a November 2010 friendly against Denmark and kept his place in the squad thanks to a brilliant Czech title-winning campaign with Plzeň, in which he scored 11 goals, far eclipsing his previous best season's haul of three.

• Missed out on UEFA Champions League football when he left Plzeň for Anorthosis but made his mark internationally with three goals in two games for the Czech Republic, including a double in their final UEFA EURO 2012 group qualifier away to Lithuania.
