A long-time understudy to Oliver Kahn at FC Bayern München, Michael Rensing was promoted to first-choice goalkeeper following the former's retirement in 2008. Most of his career has been spent performing for Bayern's youth, amateur and reserve teams.
• Joined Bavarian giants from TuS Lingen in 2000 but was not promoted to first-team squad until four years later, making his debut against Hamburger SV in February 2004.
• Made only intermittent Bundesliga appearances over next few seasons as Bayern reigned supreme in Germany, winning the domestic double three times in four years.
• A German international at several age levels, he made 18 appearances for the Under-21 team between August 2004 and October 2006.
• Handed No1 jersey by new Bayern coach Jürgen Klinsmann in 2008/09 and made 26 consecutive Bundesliga starts but lost his place to Hans-Jörg Butt at tail end of season following 5-1 defeat at VfL Wolfsburg.
• Made his 50th Bundesliga appearance on opening day of 2009/10 campaign but again fell out of favour after a shock defeat by 1. FSV Mainz 05 two weeks later.
