A nifty, agile forward who generally operates on the right wing, Yoan Gouffran was a member of France's triumphant 2005 UEFA European Under-19 Championship team and developed his game with SM Caen before moving south to FC Girondins de Bordeaux, where he won the championship in his first season.
• Born in the Parisian suburbs to parents from Guadeloupe, he began his professional career in Normandy with Caen.
• Made steady progress at Caen, coming to the fore in Ligue 2 following the club's relegation from the top flight in 2005.
• After winning U19 title, Gouffran became a regular with France's Under-21 side, competing at the 2006 UEFA European Under-21 Championship in Portugal.
• Led Caen back into top division with 15 goals in 37 games in 2006/07 and was voted Ligue 2's Player of the Season; consolidated his burgeoning reputation by scoring ten times in Ligue 1 in 2007/08 and earning transfer to Bordeaux.
• Experienced mixed fortunes during debut campaign at Stade Chaban-Delmas but ended it with winners' medals in Ligue 1 and League Cup, scoring in final of the latter.
Did you know?
Gouffran scored the only goal of the game in the win that clinched the 2008/09 Ligue 1 title for Bordeaux − at the expense of his old club Caen, who were relegated as a result.
