David Limberský

David Limberský

A pacy left-back who can also operate in midfield and boasts a venomous long-range shot, David Limberský played no part in the Czech Republic's UEFA EURO 2012 qualifying campaign but has raised his profile significantly with home-town club FC Viktoria Plzeň, not least in winning the 2010/11 1. Liga title.

• Started out with Plzeň in the Czech second division in 2002/03 and made a name for himself at the 2003 FIFA U-20 World Cup, scoring the Czech Republic's only two goals at the tournament.

• Joined Italian club Modena FC on loan in January 2004 but made just four substitute appearances in Serie A; moved on for a second loan spell at Tottenham Hotspur FC, where he was unable to make a first-team breakthrough.

• Relaunched his career back home in the 1. Liga with Plzeň, spending two seasons there before joining AC Sparta Praha, for whom he made his European club competition debut against Spurs' London rivals Arsenal FC in a UEFA Champions League qualifier.

• Returned to Plzeň after one campaign at Sparta and went on to become a senior Czech international, making his debut on 5 June 2009 in a friendly against Malta in Jablonec.

• Won the Czech Cup with Plzeň in 2010, playing all 90 minutes of the final against FK Jablonec, then helped the club win their maiden top-flight title the following season, missing just one game; also started all six of Plzeň's 2011/12 UEFA Champions League group matches.
