History
• Torino's origins lie in Football Club Torinese, a team founded in 1894 which six years later absorbed another local side, Internazionale Torino. In 1906 they welcomed a breakaway faction from Juventus, led by a Swiss, Alfredo Dick, and duly changed their name to FC Torino and their shirt colour to maroon.

• In 1926/27 Torino moved into the Stadio Filadelfia and won the league only to be stripped of their prize; they made amends the next year as a side built by club president Count Enrico Marone Cinzano and featuring the goals of Julio Libonatti, Adolfo Baloncieri and Gino Rossetti claimed their first official title.

• Torino's greatest period came in the 1940s with five straight championships secured between 1943 and 1949. The third of those successes (1946/47) featured a club-record 29-goal haul from their captain Valentino Mazzola. Tragically the era of 'Il Grande Torino' ended with the Superga plane crash on 4 May 1949 in which 31 people, including 18 players, perished on their way home from a friendly match in Lisbon.

• The club's solitary Serie A triumph since then arrived in 1976 when Luigi Radice steered a team spearheaded by 21-goal Paolo Pulici to the title, three points clear of neighbours Juventus.

• The Granata's closest brush with European glory came in 1992 when a side containing the attacking talents of Gianluigi Lentini, Enzo Scifo, Walter Casagrande, Martín Vázquez and Giorgio Bresciani reached the UEFA Cup final, losing to AFC Ajax on away goals. Consolation of sorts came the next season with a Coppa Italia final victory against AS Roma – their last major honour.

• After 16 years at the Stadio Delle Alpi, Torino moved back to their old home at the Stadio Comunale – now renamed the Stadio Olimpico – in 2006.
