History
• Founded by a group of 12 Trondheim youngsters, the club was originally named Odd in honour of Skien-based Odd Grenland but took on the name of its local district in 1928 because the Norway Football Association would not let two teams with the same name compete in the league.

• Rosenborg's early years were largely spent in the lower divisions but things began to pick up after they took up residence at their Lerkendal Stadium in 1947; the club beat their one-time namesakes Odd to win their first Norwegian Cup in 1960.

• Nils Arne Eggen was one of the star players when Rosenborg claimed their first two league titles in 1967 and 1969 and coached them to a domestic double in 1971, but the trail went cold in the following years, their fourth title not coming until 1985.

• Eggen's fifth spell as Rosenborg coach began in 1988 and heralded a period of utter dominance in Norway; between 1988 and 2004, they won 15 of a possible 17 league titles, including 13 in a row from 1992 to 2004. Eggen presided over most of them and returned to lead the team to another league title in 2010.

• That domestic success led to regular football in the UEFA Champions League, where Rosenborg fans have enjoyed some memorable nights, the most famous being a 2-1 group stage win at AC Milan in December 1996, which knocked the mighty Italian side out of the competition and sent Rosenborg to the quarter-finals.
