Homeless World Cup Challenge launched

A series of events in association with the Homeless World Cup have been announced with the aim of continuing the momentum of positive social change built at the annual tournament.

A new series of events in association with the Homeless World Cup have been announced with the aim of continuing the momentum of positive social change that the tournament has been building internationally through its annual festival of football since 2003.

The Homeless World Cup Global Challenge is an international sporting series which will involve a calendar of activities with the focus on fun and inclusion for players of all abilities. The inaugural event will be the Kinetic 5s, a set of five-a-side tournaments that will be regionally staged in England and Scotland.

The first tournament will take place on 28 May at the Toryglen Regional Football Centre in Glasgow, involving teams of employees from 16 companies from across Scotland. This will be followed by Kinetic 5s tournaments in London on 25 June and Manchester on 16 July.

Mel Young, president and co-founder of the Homeless World Cup said: "Kinetic 5s is a phenomenal opportunity for companies and colleagues to unite and show the world the true power that football has to change lives whilst helping us to reach our goal to end homelessness around the globe."

UEFA has supported the Homeless World Cup since the first tournament was staged in Graz, Austria, 11 years ago. The event, which this year will be held in Paris in August, uses football as a vehicle to encourage homeless people to change their own lives as well as the hearts and minds of governments, media, the public and key decision-makers to create better solutions to homelessness around the world.
